Lady Musgrave Island- jewel of the Great Barrier Reef- is the reef’s closest point to Brisbane. At this coral cay with the reef’s deepest fringing lagoon and which is protected by 8 nautical miles of coral wall, people of all ages can safely snorkel or SCUBA dive and get close to over 1200 species of brilliantly coloured fish and more than 200 varieties of soft and hard corals.

Our state-of-the-art cararmaran Spirit of 1770 will speed you from the mainland (Town of 1770) to spend over 5 hours on the reef and offer you many ways to get close and personal with its inhabitants.

You can walk down below the water line in our underwater observatory permanently anchored in one of the best coral viewing positions in the 2,930 hectare lagoon; or take a ride in our semi-submersible submarine allowing you to view the Great Barrier Reef from an underwater perspective.

You can also see the reef and its inhabitants from above in a glass-bottomed boat which is able to maneuver and catch sightings of fast-moving reef fish and Loggerhead & Green turtles which nest on the island.

Lady Musgrave Island teems with life. Take an island-walk and discover a world not available on most other Great Barrier Reef tours. The island is composed entirely of coral sand and supports a luxurious forest of Pisonia trees only found on coral cays. Migrant wading birds visit from Siberia and you can see white-bellied sea eagles, buff-banded rails, eastern reef egrets, silver eyes, wedge-tailed shearwaters and black noddies during much of the year.

Coral fish species include the blue, green and yellow parrot fish, coral trout, the famous clown fish living in its sea anemone home, yellow tang, the scary moray eel, the harmless reef shark and the conspicuous turtles. On the boat journey between the mainland and the island you have a good chance of seeing dolphins playing alongside the boat and, in season, Humpback Whales migrating from the Antarctic to give birth to their young.

With so many ways to view the Great Barrier Reef- snorkeling, SCUBA, glass-bottomed boat, semi-submersible submarine, underwater-viewing platform or simply island-walking, you can’t help but embrace the reef’s dazzling display of life.

Australia Zoo: Home of the Crocodile Hunter. There is no other zoo like this in the world and this is a must-see on any visit to Australia! Get up close and personal with some of Australia’s unique and ferocious wildlife including mammals, reptiles and birds.

See the crocodile-feeding shows which display the awesome primitive power as salt-water crocs leap out of the water to devour the meat hand-held by their zoo keeper. Get safely close to the world’s most toxic snake, the Fierce Snake, which has venom so poisonous that one drop can kill a hundred men.

A couple of our special exotic guests include the tigers and cheetahs. And you can see these awesome creatures from the zoo’s special facility which allows you to view them from underwater. And you can feed the gorgeous Asian elephants and kangaroos for FREE.

With over 1,000 native and exotic animals your Australia Zoo experience will radically inform your view of Australia’s strange wildlife.
